Joel Karahadian was born and raised in Los Angeles, and making music has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. He grew up taking piano lessons and singing in choirs, and taught himself to play guitar when he was 16 by “borrowing” his little brother’s guitar when he wasn’t home. He had to buy his own guitar once his brother found out.
He never expected to find himself working in ministry, but God has a way of taking what we think is best and redirecting and realigning us to His will. He played in many different bands over the years, but leading worship was always part of what he did, starting in high school, until it became his ultimate calling and purpose. Prior to joining Beautiful Gate, he spent 2 1/2 years as the worship director at Glendale Presbyterian Church.
Joel is something of an “Ecumenical Mutt”. He grew up in an evangelical Presbyterian church, is the grandson and nephew of 3 Pentecostal preachers, and attended a Catholic high school. Beautiful Gate is the perfect place for someone who doesn’t fit inside a traditional box. As Executive Pastor, he uses his gift for strategy to translate the Vision of the Beautiful Gate into a workable plan.
